Un lussuoso box set di 10 CD che contiene tutti i lavori solisti di David Sylvian realizzati per la sua indie label samadhisound tra il 2003 e il 2014 più gli album registrati con i Nine Horses, Jan Bang & Erik Honoré e Franz Wright & Christian Fennesz. Il box contiene inoltre un CD con una compilation esclusiva, “Do You Know Me Now?”, che comprende tracce registrate con Ryuichi Sakamoto e i Nine Horses, inedite sugli album.
LA GENESI
All’inizio del 2003, dopo 21 anni con Virgin Records, David Sylvian sentì il bisogno di un cambio di direzione musicale e di una propria autonomia creando la label samadhisound e pubblicando le opere più personali e sorprendenti della sua carriera. Questo nuovo boxset di 10 CD raccoglie tutti i lavori pubblicati da Sylvian durante gli 11 anni di vita della label, sia gli album da solista che le varie collaborazioni.
L’elegante cofanetto è stato disegnato da Chris Bigg, da anni collaboratore di Sylvian, e l’immagine di copertina è una fotografia di Ruud Van Empel; all’interno un libro di 100 pagine con l’introduzione di David Sylvian, un saggio sull’estetica della samadhisound del designer Adrian Shaughnessy e i tre raccoglitori dei CD con grafica curata dell’artista contemporaneo canadese Lance Austin Olsen.
Parlando degli anni della samadhisound, Sylvian ha dichiarato
Anche se personalmente ritengo che le incisioni per samadhisound rappresentino il mio miglior lavoro, vennero prodotte durante un periodo molto turbolento con eventi che causarono cambiamenti devastanti nella mia vita. Non posso sorvolare su tutto ciò, che influenzò in vari modi le registrazioni.
Forse è per questo che, dopo tutto questo tempo, al di fuori di ogni possibile innovazione musicale, rimane così importante per me”.
