I Bastille tornano con un singolo provocatorio, “survivin’: una canzone dalle sonorità decisamente più pop, rispetto al brano precedente, che parla della versione di noi stessi che scegliamo di dare agli altri.

Dan Smith ha iniziato a scrivere “survivin” alla fine dello scorso anno con l’intenzione di fare un resoconto sincero degli alti e bassi durante i sette anni di esistenza dei Bastille. “Ci sono state volte in cui mi sono sentito come se fossi stato in una lavatrice e su un nastro trasportatore allo stesso tempo”, spiega Dan, “ma quando la gente mi chiedeva come stavo, la risposta era sempre il solito cliché britannico: ‘Sì, tutto bene, tutto bene'”. “Poi è arrivato il periodo dell’isolamento e non sentivo la canzone più adeguata, ma alla fine ho pensato anche che il 2020 è l’anno in cui abbiamo smesso tutti di fingere che tutto vada bene”.

“survivin” è un brano contagioso che racchiude in sé riferimenti alla cultura pop. Nella canzone è presente anche il sax per gentile concessione di Rittipo, che suona in tour coni Bastille: “Volevamo che le sue linee di sax fossero volutamente forti e che facessero sorridere”.
