Video e Testo: MAXIMO PARK – “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing”

I Maxïmo Park presentano il nuovo singolo I Don’t Know What I’m Doing tratto dall’imminente album “Nature Always Wins” (in uscita il 26 febbraio).

L’album “Nature Always Wins” fa riferimento al famoso dibattito Natura contro Cultura e si pone la domanda “chi siamo, chi vogliamo essere e abbiamo controllo su tutto ciò?”
I singoli pubblicati fino ad ora, Child of The Flatlands e Baby, Sleep – analizzavano a loro modo come ciò che ci circonda possa essere alla base della nostra identità e come le circostanze possano deformare la nostra percezione di tutto ciò.

Il Nuovo singolo “I Don’t Know What I’m Doing” rappresenta al meglio la band, che affronta la paura, l’ansia e il senso di colpa associato alla natura causa/effetto delle proprie azioni.

Il frontman Paul Smith commenta:

Il brano parla di prendersi la responsabilità di come il tuo comportamento possa influenzare altre persone e di come nessuno se ne renda conto, ma che questo non debba fermarci dal provare. A livello personale parla delle paure e dei dubbi che ho sperimentato in quanto neo padre, fattori che abbiamo cercato di inserire nel video e che vengono meglio rappresentati dal concetto più astratto di una scala infinita!”

Nature Always Wins è una sorta di esame approfondito sulla nozione del sé , dell’identità in quanto band e di quella dell’umanità in generale. Il titolo dell’album fa riferimento al famoso dibattito Natura contro Cultura. L’argomento di discussione è se il cambiamento è in grado di avvenire sotto l’influenza del tempo, della prospettiva e dell’ambiente, o se siamo destinati ad essere vincolati dalla nostra genetica, chiedendoci “chi siamo, chi vogliamo essere e abbiamo controllo su tutto ciò?”

Perfezionando l’approccio del trio, la scrittura è iniziata la scorsa estate con Smith, Lloyd e English, alla ricerca di un quarto membro diverso – un produttore che sarebbe stato anche musicista. L’arrivo del produttore di Atlanta e vincitore di un Grammy Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter) ha permesso alla band di suonare e creare in libertà. Questa libertà fu presto messa in discussione dal lockdown, che impose alla band di sfruttare al massimo le tecnologie a disposizione per registrare in tempo reale da una parte all’altra del mondo – loro a Newcastle e Liverpool e Allen ad Atlanta.
